Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is made up of 9 seats.

They are charged with day-to-day management of the foundation (art. 8-4 Statutes).

Ireland (IRLOGI), Bruce McCormack

Vice President of EUROGI

Bruce McCormack is the President of IRLOGI. He is a Planning Inspector in the Department of Environment, heritage and local government, based in Dublin. He is involved with the implementation of the national spatial strategy for Ireland and plays a leading role in the formulation of the Irish spatial data infrastructure. He is a qualified town and regional planner and is married with two grown daughters.

France (AFIGéO), François Salgé

François Salgé is a well-known figure in Geographic Information Systems.
During his years at the Institut Géographique National (IGN), the French national mapping agency, he led the development of the French GI reference data. He also contributed to shifting IGN from a map maker to an information provider.
He was MEGRIN's first Executive Director and President of the European standards organisation, CEN's GI Technical Committee. He was Secretary General of CNIG.
Mr. Salgé was then a key player in INSPIRE, France's National Council for Geographic Information.
He is at present advisor to the director general of the General Planning, Housing and Nature Directorate in the Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Town and Country Planning (MEEDDAT) of France
He is an active member of AFIGéO.

Spain (AESIG), Sebastián Mas-Mayoral

Sebastián Mas-Mayoral is a member of the Spanish GIS Association (AESIG) Executive Committee. He is Deputy Director for GI Applications and ICT at the National Geographic Institute of Spain (IGN-E). Since 1976 he has been working to set up GIS systems in Spain. As a member of the National Geographic High Council (NGHC) of Spain he is the Chairman of the NGHC´s Commission and Working Group in charge to set up the National SDI of Spain (www.idee.es). He is also Chairman of the Spanish Standardisation Association´s Technical Committee 148 for GI Standardisation. On the personal side, he enjoys trekking, open air sports and driving.

GI Norden, Henning Sten Hansen

Current term: 2008-2011

Henning Sten Hansen is Professor in Geoinformatics at Aalborg University.
He is member of the GI Norden Executive Board since 2001, and was its president from 2005-2007. His main research interests are geographic information related to the environment – particularly spatio-temporal modelling and spatial data infrastructures. Recently, he has adopted climate change to his research agenda – particularly how geographic information can support adaptation and mitigation strategies. The European dimension is in focus for his research, and Henning Sten Hansen has been involved in several EU funded research projects, and he is active in European organisations like UDMS, AGILE and ScanGIS – the Scandinavian GI Research Community. He is involved in the INSPIRE process by being a member of the INSPIRE Expert group and a key player in the Danish INSPIRE implementation. He developed the Danish Journal of Geographic Information – Geoforum Perspektiv, and was its first chief editor from 2002 to 2007. He is married and has two children. In the freetime he enjoys cycling, nature and art.

Austria (AGEO), Gerda Schennach

Gerda Schennach was graduated as Dipl.Ing. (MSc) in geodesy at the Technical University in Vienna and acted as head of cadastral offices in the BEV, which is the Austrian federal agency for metrology and surveying, for 15 years. Since
1998 she took over a function in the Headquarters of BEV and is in charge of GI matters and European affairs. In 1998 she prepared the founding of the Austrian Umbrella Organization for GI (AGEO), which has been managed by her as Secretary-General since then. She has been an active expert in several European topics, such as services, public sector information, mutual recognition and for the INSPIRE Directive. From 1998-2007 she held the function of a Secretary-General in the European Council of Geodetic Surveyors (CLGE). On a personal side she enjoys modern arts and crafts and she practices skiing, tennis and hiking.

 

Hungary (HUNAGI), Gabor Remetey-Fülöpp

Gabor Remetey-Fülöpp received his Ph.D. from the Budapest Technical University. Working 16 years in computer aided design at VIZITERV and applied digital image processing at FÖMI Remote Sensing Center, he has received scholarships in the Netherlands and by the European Commission. On behalf FÖMI RSC he was liasion in the European Space Agency's Earthnet programme (1982-1990), later he was president of ISPRS Commission VII "Resources and Environmental Monitoring" (1996-2000). Between 1986 and 2006 he was working as head of Dept of Cadastre and Informatics (1990-1995), later as senior chief counsellor at the Department of Land Administration and Geoinformation at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development involved in R+D, LIS/GIS, EU accession related institution building and international cooperation. He was member of the Permanent Committee on Cadastre in the European Union and the INSPIRE Expert Group of the European Commission (2002-2006). After his retirement he remains active in many areas: serving as volunteer as Secretary General of the national GI association HUNAGI since 1994, member of EUROGI's Executive Committee since 1998, member of the Board of Directors of the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association (GSDI) since 2004 and member of the Executive Committee of the Int’l Society of Digital Earth since 2008. He is correspondent in GEO on behalf Hungary and the GSDI Association and active in projects Humboldt, eSDI-Net+ and PSI Platform.

Portugal (IGP), Rui Pedro Juliao

Rui Pedro Julião is Deputy Director of IGP and Professor at Universidade Nova de
Lisboa since 1989. In IGP, where he is since 2002, his main responsibilities are the
NSDI (SNIG), research, IT and Cadastre. At the university he is responsible for GIS courses and research at the Geography Department. On a personal side, he enjoys
sea activities (scubadiving and windsurf) and mountain biking.

Switzerland (SOGI), Rene Sonney

Rene Sonney

René Sonney is a licensed surveyor. He was a private surveyor for 25 years with his own office. In 2003 he joined the public body Swisstopo, responsible for the implementation of the NSDI in Switzerland. He has a strong awareness of both public and private sector. From 1994 to 2000 he was President of Geosuisse, the Swiss Surveyors Association and in 2001 he has been elected to the executive board of the council of European geodetic surveyors. After his family (3 children) René has two main passions: skiing and sailing.
