Case studies on the benefits of geographic information

As part of the 2007 workplan, EUROGI will upgrade Webcastle to a European Geoportal of Applications or an EGA. See presentation during EUROGI's 2007 General Assembly.

Webcastle is a case study locator service on the Web (WEB CAse STudy Locator servicE), which at present houses over 30 case studies on the subject of geographic-information. Its intent is to raise awareness of the benefits to be enjoyed from the use and exploitation of geographic. This service is free and interested parties are welcome to share the information available with others.

Webcastle is a deliverable of the EC funded, GINIE Project.

Raising awareness on the value of geographic information is an objective that EUROGI and the majority of its members subscribe to. This can be done by showing what geographic information does, not by explaining what it is.

Good case study material is in demand for a wide range of purposes, which includes:

  • lobbying
  • proactive public relations (PR)
  • placing of articles in the media
  • education.

More case studies are welcome. If interested contact the EUROGI Secretariat.

Picture book on the benefits to geographic information

Within Webcastle, EUROGI completed a Picture Book, highlighting how geographic information is used in every day life; from airports, ambulances to coastal management and farming.

The Picture Book is free for all to use.

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE:

If you have a good quality digital photograph depicting "GI at work", send it to EUROGI Secretariat stating its use and benefits of geographic information (max. 300 words). It should be acknowledged and where the photograph was taken (place name). We will arrange for it to be uploaded.
